Following his first three-peat, on October 6, 1993 Michael Jordan shocked the world and announced his retirement from basketball. To add to the surprises, he then began to pursue a career in baseball. In 1994, Jordan played for the Birmingham Barons (a Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), the team that inspired both of these retro models. The Air Jordan 1 "Barons" and Air Jordan IX "Barons" both have a striking white, black and grey colorway, which matches the Barons' team colors. The AJIX is also adorned with Jordan's baseball jersey number "45" on the heel to further reinforce the baseball connection. Like most retro Jordan releases, these models are in high demand and available in limited quantities.
