PF-Flyers are a true original and an American icon. The “PF” in "PF-Flyers" was named after the Posture Foundation insole BF Goodrich patented in 1933. This innovative insole was designed to evenly distribute weight, reducing leg strain and was put in all of the Goodrich shoes. It was a hit. And, in 1937 Goodrich shoes with Posture Foundation simply became known as “PF-Flyers.” Throughout the 30’s and 40’s PF-Flyers successfully manufactured sneakers along with oxfords, boots and heels.
In the 50’s, when sport sneakers were gaining in popularity, PF-Flyers pioneered the first collaboration between a sneaker company and a pro athlete. The athlete was basketball legend Bob Cousy from the Boston Celtics. They teamed up and created several designs that were successful, and many other sneaker company/pro athlete partnerships began to unfold.
By the time the 1960’s rolled around PF-Flyers was one of the most popular shoes in America. Their sneakers soon became active footwear for everyone. Today you can find many of the classic PF-Flyers designs with their thick rubber soles and classic lacing, including the PF-Flyers Center Hi, PF-Flyers Glide Hi, PF-Flyers Derby, PF Flyers Grounder and the PF-Flyers Windjammer.
Sometimes when you lace up a pair of sneakers you’re wearing more than leather, canvas and rubber—you’re wearing history. That is definitely the case with PF-Flyers.
