Product Description
Nike Dunk Low Premium SB (Eire Dunks)

Special Edition: Eire Dunks!
Some are calling it the Guinness Dunk due to the Irish harp embroidered on the side, but the Eire Dunk, available in limited release for St. Patrick's Day 2006, is rumored to be in celebration of the Easter Rising of 1916, part of the struggle to throw off British rule of Ireland. According to some popular shoe forums:

On Easter Monday, April 24th 1916, a force of Irishmen under arms estimated at between 1,000 and 1,500 men and women attempted to seize Dublin, with the ultimate intention of destroying British rule in Ireland and creating an entirely independent Irish Republic to include all 32 counties of Leinster, Munster, Ulster and Connaught. Their leaders, Patrick Pearse, James Connolly and the others, knew that their chances of success were so slight as to be almost non-existent. Yet they fought, and died.

To honor the memories of these brave men and women of Ireland and celebrate the 90th anniversary of this historic uprising. Nike SB will release the "Éire Dunk Low SB" and Éire apparel collection at exactly four minutes past noon on 24th April 2006. This will mark the exact date and time - Irish Proclamation of Independence was read from the steps of the General Post Office (G.P.O.) on Dublin's O'Connell Street by Patrick Pearse which signified the start of the Easter Rising of 1916.

The lettering "Éire" (pronounced "air-rah") embroidered on the heal tab (note the accent or "fada" over the "É") is the Irish or Gaelic word for Ireland. Designed using Linen overlays a textile which is made from a vegetable fiber obtained from the inside of the woody stalk of the flax plant commonly produced in Ireland. Color inspiration for the collection was derived from the 3 colors of the Irish flag, Green, white and orange and includes an Irish Harp logo, which as part of Ireland's heraldic arms is also found on Irish coins and currency, uniforms, and official documents.

About the Nike Dunk
Back to basics. Now popular with skaters, basketball players, and the fashionable alike, the first ever production of the Nike Dunk shoe was in 1985. Before the Nike Air Jordan I, the Nike Dunk, which later influenced the Jordan I, was the team basketball shoe of choice. It was available in high and low versions in a variety of team colorways to match an uniform, and it came with a matching box and two sets of different color laces. The original Dunk is a highly sought-after collectors item and due to consumer demand, the Nike Dunk line was reissued in 1998 and numerous colorways have been made available on a regular basis since then. Nike released the skate Dunk in 1999 featuring a padded tongue and ankle collar. In 2002, they collaborated withe the Supreme Skate brand to produce the Supreme Dunks, and in 2004, Nike released the new, never-before-seen Nike Dunk Mid. Other special and limited editions include holiday models for Valentine's Day and Christmas, Laser Dunks that feature laser-engraved artwork, Harris Tweed Dunks with famous British tweed fabric, and The Inside Out Dunks. Technologically, the Nike Dunk line of shoes has the most basic of technologies, but its simplicity and wide variety of colors leaves this line of 80’s retro basketball shoes compatible with many styles and make them perfect for casual wear.
